Can you see tigers in Kerala?
Yes — Kerala has two tiger reserves: Periyar (Thekkady) and Parambikulam. Tiger sightings are not guaranteed (they never are anywhere), but both reserves have healthy tiger populations. Periyar's boat safari on the lake offers excellent chances to see elephants, gaur and sambar at the water's edge. Night safaris at Parambikulam increase sighting probability. Most guests also see leopards, wild dogs (dholes) and sloth bears.
What is the best time for a Kerala wildlife safari?
October to April is optimal — animals congregate around water sources, visibility is clear, and forest tracks are accessible. March–April (just before monsoon) is excellent as water sources dry up and wildlife concentrates. June–September (monsoon) brings lush green forests but many tracks close and leeches are abundant. Birding is exceptional year-round, with migratory species peaking October–February.
